Freezing in the freezer can block the vent openings and prevent cold air from reaching the refrigerator. When the refrigerator is running, remove the back wall of the freezer, remove pent-up frost, pour hot water into the evaporator coil, and everything is fine. If this works, the refrigerator may be defective and the defrosting clock needs to be replaced.
If your freezer is functioning normally but your refrigerator is not cooling, this is a sign that there may be a problem with the evaporator, fan or motor. If the fans and compressor are running but the refrigerator is not yet cooling, check the air flow and defrost system for problems. If the refrigerator is not cold enough, the compressor may have difficulty starting.

There are two fans in your refrigerator that make up the majority of the appliance in operation, and if they don’t work, there’s probably a reason your refrigerator isn’t cold enough. The compressor and condenser fans are located at the back of the access panel at the back of the refrigerator and have the thermostat that needs to be cooled. The fans keep the compressor and condenser coils cool, but when the fan is defective, the refrigerator starts to heat up. The condenser fan is located at the bottom of the refrigerator in a cabinet next to the compressor-condenser coils (note that some refrigerator models have coils on the back and bottom, not fans).
