I Have An Older Refrigerator And It Isn’t Cooling?

If you can hear the compressor running, but the refrigerator is not cooling, then it is more likely that the issue is a frozen-over evaporator coil, or a stuck-or-broken evaporator fan. If a compressor is running in a mini-fridge, then the device may be cooling, just not to where a human would want. If the condenser and compressor are unable to properly exchange heat because of the faulty fan motor in the condenser, the mini fridge can never be as cold as designed.

The job of a condenser fan is to keep the compressor and the coils cool, so if the compressor breaks, then the refrigerator starts heating up. Normally, a fridges condenser fan and compressor, located near the floor in the back of most refrigerators, turn on when the thermostat calls for extra cooling. If the fan and compressor in your cooling system are running, but your fridge or freezer is not cooling properly, check to see if there is a problem with the airflow or the defrost system.

If the fridge believes that it is always opening the doors, then it is not running the condenser hard enough to keep a proper cold temperature.
